Chapter 6 SummaryChapter 6 Summary:
So at the beginning of this chapter, Lennie is sitting by the shore thinking about everything that's just happened. How he screwed up again and hoping that George will forgive him. As he's sitting there talking to himself he starts seeing things. Such as his aunt Clara and a gigantic rabbit. They are both talking to him saying things like "he's gonna leave you" "he's gonna beat the hell out of you" and constantly ripping on him about not being able to remember things or being responsible for himself. That George has to do everything for him and take care of him. All of a sudden, George comes from behind him and starts to talk to Lennie. Lennie asks George if he's mad and asks him if he's gonna give him hell like always. But George doesn't. So then Lennie asks him to tell him about how things are gonna be in the future for them. That they're gonna have some land of their own and have rabbits; so that Lennie can tend to them. They're not gonna have to worry about anything anymore.
George asks him to look out onto the river so that he can imagin it. At the same time that George is explaining it, he pulls a gun out of his pocket. As he gets into greater detail about the future he brings the gun close to Lennies head; "Where the spine and brain meet". Once George hears that the others are coming he pulls the trigger and shoots Lennie in the back of the head. Lennie slowly falls forword into the sand next to the shore, face down. Slim comes to get George. Soon after, Curley and Carlson come up behind them. They start asking how he did it and such. George just says that he took the gun and shot him, that's all. Then Slim and George go get a drink.
