~Stock Market crashed on October 12, 1929

~The crash was the main reason for the Great Depression

~50% of children in the US were without "adequate food, shelter, clothing, and medical care"

~Soup Kitchen lines were really long, and people would wait in line, just for a small meal

~Those who didnt wait in line or receive food would pick food out of the trash

~25% of citizens were unemployeed

~People who had saved money in a bank lost it all, over 3,600 banks closed

~settlements built with shacks were called Hoovervilles, after President Hoover

~in 1933, FDR became President and brought about the New Deal

~said to have "ended" in 1939

~ WWII made US economy go up, produced jobs, and put money into circulation
